あなたの研究テーマについて教えてください。What is your research theme?

My research theme focuses on high-performance amorphous gallium oxide  TFT using solution combustion synthesis (SCS) high-k Al₂O₃ and HfO₂ gate dielectric. My current research has reached the lowest voltage (Vth = 0.6 V) but still low mobility. In comparison to Vth value of the recent reports (> 0.8 V), my current work could fill the research gap and potential opportunities for further exploration in solution-based gallium oxide TFTs. To further improve this work and reach the best target value (high mobility ≧10 cm²/Vs and low Vth of 0 V), this work will incorporate bilayer high-k gate dielectric Al₂O₃ and HfO₂ which will be deposited via eco-friendly, low-temperature solution combustion synthesis (SCS) processes, making it compatible with flexible substrates and low-voltage electronics. The high-k value of HfO₂ (k = ~25) will provide high capacitance for efficient gate control while Al₂O₃ (k = ~9) will serve as an interfacial passivation layer to reduce trap densities. The use of bilayer high-k is expected to improve interfacial quality, suppress charge trapping, and enhance gate control thereby boosting device performance.

なぜ博士課程へ進学しましたか?Why did you decide to pursue a doctoral program?

25-43-02

After I graduated from master’s degree, I feel that I need to learn more deeply about semiconductor field. During my master’s studies, I gained technical foundations in thin-film device fabrication and characterization which is very new to me, and with this experience not only deepened my interest in research but also revealed the many unanswered questions that remain. At the same time, I became inspired by the potential applications of future devices in areas like flexible and low-voltage devices. To contribute meaningfully to these areas, I knew I would need independence, depth of expertise, and long-term perspective that a doctoral program provides. For me, pursuing a doctorate is not only about gaining advanced skills, but also about growing into a researcher who can design and lead projects, share knowledge, and innovations that benefit society.

Graniteの支援で役立っている・助かっていることを教えてください。Please share what has been helpful or beneficial through the support provided by Granite.

The support from GRANITE has been truly meaningful for me, not only because of the financial support but also because of the sense of encouragement and community it provides. Financial support has allowed me to focus fully on my research without being burdened by external obstacles. This has made a big difference in maintaining consistency and focus, especially during challenging experiments. Beyond the funding, what I have found most valuable are the opportunities to learn and grow through interaction with other fellows, mentors, and researchers. I also appreciate the workshops, conferences and lab stay opportunities that emphasize communication and connecting research with future leaders. Furthermore, GRANITE has helped me learn about different career paths in both academia and industry and led me on how to achieve it. These experiences have made me feel more prepared and optimistic about finding a career where I can apply my research to real-world needs. In many ways, GRANITE has given me both the tools and the confidence to move forward in my doctoral journey, and I feel very fortunate to be part of this supportive environment.

将来の目標、もしくはあなたが胸に秘めた野望があればぜひ教えてください。Please share your future goals or any ambitions you hold close to your heart.

I want to be a person who leaves a legacy, not only benefiting myself but also others. What is the point of having knowledge if it is not shared? Also, I hope to strengthen my leadership and communication skills so I can guide collaborative projects and mentor future researchers. In the long term, I aspire to contribute to both scientific discovery and technological innovation while inspiring others to pursue research with curiosity and purpose.

For anyone considering a doctoral program, I would say it is both a challenging and rewarding journey that requires genuine curiosity and persistence. Because a PhD is not for everyone. Before making the decision, it is helpful to reflect on what motivates you and whether you truly enjoy the process of research. I would also recommend talking to other people like your family/parents, teachers, mentors or current doctoral students to gain a realistic picture of both the difficulties and the growth opportunities. Most importantly, view the doctorate not only as a degree, but as an opportunity to contribute knowledge that may one day benefit others.
