あなたの研究テーマについて教えてください。What is your research theme?

My research focuses on constructing a lung model by co-culturing HPF and NHBE cells. The importance of this lung model lies in its ability to mimic the human lung environment, enabling the study of infections caused by various viruses that attack the lungs, such as those causing pneumonia. By using this model, we can investigate viral infection mechanisms and evaluate the effectiveness of potential therapeutic drugs for specific pulmonary diseases. This lung model thus provides a valuable platform for advancing respiratory disease research and drug development.
なぜ博士課程へ進学しましたか?Why did you decide to pursue a doctoral program?

I do not have one specific reason for choosing to pursue a doctoral degree, but I believe it is the best way to improve my research skills and make a meaningful contribution to my field. I chose to study in Japan because it is known for high-quality and well-structured research. By studying here, I hope to learn from experienced researchers and use advanced facilities, which will help me become a better and more capable scientist.

To be honest, I am still in the early stages of my doctoral studies, so I am still exploring my long-term path. However, one of my current goals is to work in Japan for around 10 years after completing my PhD. After that, I hope to move to another country such as Australia, New Zealand, or somewhere in Europe to gain international experience. If I have the opportunity to move abroad within the next 10 years, I would like to serve as a bridge between the company I work for and NAIST, to help build strong collaborations. Although my plans are not yet fully decided, I am motivated to grow as a researcher and professional with a global perspective.

Pursuing a doctoral degree is a big step, and it can feel overwhelming at times — especially at the beginning. But you don’t need to have everything figured out from the start. What matters is staying curious, open-minded, and willing to learn, even when things feel uncertain. Everyone’s path is different, so don’t compare yourself too much to others. Take your time, ask questions, and find the support you need. It’s okay not to be perfect — just keep moving forward, one step at a time.
